Gibsons Legion Cenotaph Project

To All Members of Branch 109

Our fundraising dinner in aid of Ukraine raised $3,000 which will be redirected to help the efforts there. I am currently searching for the best place to send these funds to aid the people.

I am now Past President and the project I am working on for this year is refurbishing the Cenotaph which has been long overdue. We have been very fortunate in being left sums of money from two bequests from wills and this money will be used for the project.

I have been fortunate in receiving help with construction and planning from Kal Klasen who, from previous experience and construction contacts, has already been able to get some volunteer help in place for which I am extremely grateful. We are looking for a generous concrete contractor who might be willing to help us achieve our goal. So if you are aware of anyone please help us and get in touch with either myself or Kal Klasen. We have money for materials but assistance with labour to install is what we need.

To further enhance the project there will be memorial walls built on either side of the existing Cenotaph where plaques of remembrance will be placed for veterans. If you have a member of your family who has been a veteran and you wish to acknowledge their service on our memorial wall please get in touch with me. There may be a cost involved, I am currently researching a product. A donation to this fund would be greatly appreciated. Either call me direct at 604-839-3957, leave a message at the Legion or send an email to gibsonslegion109@gmail.com for my attention. The plan is to have this finished before our Remembrance Day ceremonies on November 11, 2022.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Wilma Jones, Past President Carol Duff
